03One product, two configurations. Our own practice is the first customer — which is how the gaps get found before a paying one finds them.
Because the software came out of the engineering.
The sizing spreadsheet on one person’s desktop. Rev C issued while three purchase orders still quote Rev B. The dossier assembled by hand, six weeks late, holding up payment.
Every firm knows about these. Almost nobody fixes them.
The people who understand the problem do not write software. The people who write software have never had a drawing rejected at a hold point. We are both.
